Kaamatan Theme Song, 2008
To celebrate the Kaamatan festival or the Harvest Festival of Sabah, Borneo.. I decided to write song for this occasion. A good way to occupy my time since I am having some trouble sleeping anyway. Normally, Kaamatan songs are in Kadazandusun language. Yeah, you guessed it. I don’t speak the language even if it’s my mother tongue. Sad. Anyway, enjoy the acoustic version of this song. It sure took me more than 4 hours. I even went out for dinner with a friend and continued doing this.
The Lyric
THIS IS KAAMATAN
This is Kaamatan, everyone is welcomed
No matter where you are from, we say no problem
This is Kaamatan, everyone is welcomed
And if you try the tapai, you’ll say aramai…tih!Every year in the month of May
Sabah is the place to stay
Kadazandusun harvest festival
Spirit of ‘bambarayon’ the source of it allFrom those days even until now
We will have the Sumazau
A dance as beautiful as an ancient song
To the beat of the instruments that we called gong‘Unduk Ngadau’ crowns the beauty queen
To honor ‘Huminodun’ sacrificed in her teens
her beauty, grace, strength and bravery
Represents the people who plants the ‘padi’

May I ask: what software are you using?
Now for a little rant: actually this is exactly doing what I’ve been saying for a long time to various people: in order to make it big, we need to go international i.e. sing songs in our distinctive melody/arrangement/rhythms in the English language, just like what Bob Marley did for reggae. Sure, we can have a few versions eg, totally kadus lyrics, totally English lyrics and/or mixed, like those X-Japan ballads.
Good work brother: I’d like to use this song as an example in future.
Ben- Thanks for those humble words. I’m flattered man… this is nothing but a simple song..
BTW, have you heard these 2 songs yet? Unfortunately they didnt make it to the AF6 finals, but I think the chosen songs were not that good either haha:
